Supplier Story - Colston Bassett Dairy
If there’s one cheese that speaks of Christmas here in the UK, it has to be a blue cheese, ideally a Stilton and for ‘gold standard’ it has to be a Colston Bassett. Rich, creamy, tangy and full of flavour. The cheese has been around for a long time, with first mention of it back in the 1720’s and it appears to have been first marketed by Cooper Thornhill of the Bell Inn in the village of Stilton.

Brother and sister, Ollie and Greta Inglis moved to Spain in 2016 and whilst there became passionate about the wonderful world of Vermouth. Originally hailing from Italy, Vermouth is a fortified wine that’s been flavoured with botanicals and was originally used for medicinal purposes, although soon found favour as the aperitif of choice.

One of our all-time favourite suppliers has got to be Pump Street. Originally the company was set up as a bakery in the village of Orford on Suffolk’s Heritage Coast.

Shop Local
When Melrose and Morgan was just a glint in our eyes, over 15 years ago now, one of our main aims in opening a shop was to put grocery shopping back into the community. Back then, supermarkets were multiplying at an ever-increasing rate and ’independent’ was a dirty word. We’d grown up with visits to our local high streets, where we’d shop at the butcher, the baker, the fishmonger, the greengrocer, but now it was all about ‘one stop shopping’.

Lockdown saw many of us attempting our own sourdough loaves, some of us succeeding and others seeing the value in popping round to our local bakery or deli and picking up a morning fresh loaf, with the hard work removed.
